Ikigai: Discover Your Reason For Being (Justyn Barnes, 2018)

Review: A very short book with enough information to set you intrigued about what have you been doing and what do you want in life. Ikigai have been widely spoken about the four quadrant and this book explains them deeper. Rated: 9/10.

  • 7 needs - a fulfilling existence, change and growth, future perspective, receiving responses, freedom, self-actualisation, significances and value
  • Ikigai - what you love + what you are good at + what you can be paid for + what the world needs
  • A father changing a nappy can be happy too when he knows the daughter’s bodily functions are working
  • “I make sure that occasionally, late at night, I’ll have a drink or two, not think about anything in front of me but just sit back and think about my life: How’s it going? What’s bothering me? What’s really going on now?” - Gordon Mathews
  • Passion is good, but not obsessive passion; embrace harmonious passion instead where you can do whenever you like to
  • “If you are working on something exciting that you really care about, you don’t have to be pushed. The vision pulls you.” -Steve Jobs
  • “If you are going to achieve excellence in big things, you develop the habit in little matters. Excellence is not an exception, it is a prevailing attitude.” -Colin Powell
  • Ostentatious - characterised by pretentious or showy display; designed to impress
