Focus: The Hidden Driver of Excellence (Daniel Goleman, 2013)

Review: The author knows exactly what caught your attention and how to re-focus, even when reading the book you will constantly be reminded to stay focus. To focus means to be able to make things happen. Rated: 8.5/10 Phase-locking: technical term for brainwave synchrony with a sound you hear 2 main varieties of distraction: sensory and emotional Bottom-up mind (muscle memory): faster in brain time, involuntary and automatic, always on, intuitive, operating through networks of association, impulsive, driven by emotion, executor of our habitual routines and guide for our actions, manager for our mental models of the world Top-down mind: slower, voluntary, effortful, the seat of self-control, muting of automatic routines, able to learn new models, make new plans, take charge of our automatic repertoire A mind adrift lets our creative juices flow With better focus, a child did better in term of health, wealth and less crime Life cycle analysis: to handle degradation better Losad...

Alchemy (Marie-Louise von Franz, 1991)

Review: Not an easy read, need to be intermediate and above to understand it. Not much content and review to share as you need to study this book instead of simply reading it. Rated: 7/10 Drug addictions: approval, attention, success, making it to the top, prestige, getting your name in the paper, power, being the boss.

Awareness (Anthony De Mello, 1990)

Review: Written by religious leader with great thoughts and examples, guiding but not forcing us to take the right path through awareness. Rated: 9.5/10 An eagle grew up with the chickens and one day it saw a majestic eagle soaring above the sky wondering what that is, the eagle lived and died a chicken, for that’s what he thought he was. Many people want to get out of kindergarten but all they want is for you to mend their broken toys. Give me back my wife, job, money, reputation and success. When you fight something, you empower it. Don't renounce it, see through it. Worse kind of charity is to do something so you won't get a bad feeling, you don't want people to think of you as bad people. Transferring the bomb from your lap to under the seat is simply transferring problems and not solving them. 3 most difficult thing: returning love for hate, including the excluded, admitting that you are wrong.  2 things in the world: love and fear; fear causes you to be angry...
